A must-have for RV toy and hobby enthusiasts!
Authors John Brunkowski and Michael Closen. Foreword by Rich Luhr.
128-page paperback filled with 380 color photos of an amazing array of toy trailers, motorhomes, and related items.
In addition to the full-size RVs in which they travel, many owners have a scale model of an RV which sits in their living room at home.
Recognizing the appreciation that we have for our miniature RVs, authors John Brunkowski and Michael Closen dragged the entire subject of collecting RV toys out of the shadows by writing an article for Airstream Life (Summer 2006). They’ve now followed it up with this comprehensive book which catalogues the best of their collections, from simple paper cut-outs all the way to elaborate scale models.
The result is 128 pages of what they describe accurately as “the history of RVing in miniature.” An entire chapter is devoted to Airstream toys, in addition to chapters on early RV toys, Japanese tin toys, travel trailer toys, Class A, B, and C motorhomes, toys for small children, and a wide range of unusual variations.
The subject is strangely compelling, perhaps because in some ways, toy RVs are better than the real thing. You don’t need a week’s vacation to have an adventure with a toy RV; With just a few minutes you can take your little RV for a refreshing getaway, and then put it back on the shelf. The fuel tank is filled only by your imagination, and the road ahead is always worth traveling. If you are looking for that sort of relaxation but on a smaller scale, RV toys can be more than just collectibles on a shelf.
Perhaps this explains why so many RV owners also have scale models. They want to be able to look at their miniature rig and feel the adventure on non-travel days too. Once you see this book, you may feel the same way.
